Liminal 4 is a collective of artists who met at ÉSAL in Metz. Together, we explore the invisible thresholds of perception, seeking to reveal the subtle, imperceptible elements of the reality that surrounds us. Through immersive installations, performances and experimental exhibitions, we are interested in the infra-thin, those phenomena that exist, but only reveal themselves to those who seek them out. The need to make liminal art arises today in a context of a lack of resonance with otherness and a dematerialization of bodies.

Loss of contact with the environment. Loss of contact with human relationships. Loss of contact with one's own bodily envelope.

Liminal is that which is at the threshold, that which is at the threshold of our perception, at the threshold of the sensible. Liminal art, then, is that which explores, glimpses, fumbles and suspects, using the tools of art, an implicit, an unknown, a stranger.

By becoming a researcher who studies limits, the liminal artist finds himself in a world where the sublime surrounds him. For surveying a map without knowing its boundaries or his own destination means pointing to his own place, however small, within a larger whole.

The liminal artist may conjure up presences, but he never completely defines them.
